Goal
To support the overall quality and learning experience of the meeting. The General Evaluator provides constructive feedback on how the meeting was conducted and helps the club continuously improve.
Tasks
- Prepare by reviewing the agenda and understanding the different roles in the meeting.
- Check which of the other evaluation role holders are newer Toastmasters and offer advice beforehand to help them fulfil their role confidently.
- Observe the meeting as a whole, including organization, atmosphere, timing, transitions, and energy.
- Take notes on the performance of role holders (e.g., Toastmaster of the Evening, Timer, Ah-Counter, Grammarian, Table Topics Master).
- Lead the introduction of the other evaluation roles and lead the evaluation section of the meeting.
- Deliver a structured report with strengths, specific observations, and suggestions for improvement.
- Time for report at the end: 4 minutes.
Hints
- Focus on the meeting as a system — not only on individual performances.
- Give especially feedback to the other evaluation roles — and, if you like, to the Table Topics speeches.
- Be specific and constructive; give examples rather than general statements.
- Balance appreciation and recommendations.
- Focus on a limited number of the most important points to stay within the allotted time.
- Your presentation at the end of the meeting is a speech — treat it like one (for example with a clear structure and message).
